17.9 What if someone were to film a documentary on your hands? What no one producer is to tell your story based on the life of your hands? What would we see? As with all of us, the movie start with a child's fist, then a foreground takes a hand clutching a mother's finger. And then what? Hold of a chair "learning to walk?
If you were to show the documentary to your friends, you'd be proud of certain moments, your hands outstretched with a gift, placing a ring on the finger of another, healing a wound, preparing a meal ... and then there are other scenes. Hands are more often than they give, they demand in place to offer.
Ah, the power of our hands. Leave them without discipline and become scratched arms for power, strangling for survival, seducing for pleasure. But these hands are disciplinary and instruments of grace. Not mere tools in the hands of God, but the very hands of God.
